The Mother Superior House is located on the corner of Main and Granary Streets in historic New Harmony, Indiana near the historic Harmonist Community House No. 2. The Log portion of the house is an original Harmonist log cabin. The brick portion of the house was added when Community House No. 2 was constructed. It was used as the dormitory kitchen during the Harmonist period and as a tavern during the Owen/Maclure era. Paul Tillich spent a brief period in this house in the early 1960s as Jane Owen’s guest. The house was named after Mother Ruth, an Anglican nun and one of Jane Blaffer Owen’s spiritual mentors.
